How to make Gingerbread Men

How to make gingerbread

Gingerbread is delicious; also it could be given as a present to friends or eaten with a nice cup of tea

You will need

350g plain flour plus extra for rolling out

1tsp bicarbonate of soda

2tsp ground ginger

1tsp ground cinnamon

125g butter

175g light soft brown sugar

1 free range egg

4tbsp golden syrup

Oven at 180 degrees

To decorate

Silver spoon icing

Mini smarties

Method:

Remember to wash your hands before you start

1.      Gently sieve the flour into a bowl add the bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon and stir.

2.      Carefully weigh the butter and add to the mixture. Blend until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.

3.      Next stir continuously while adding the brown sugar.

4.      Lightly beat the egg and golden syrup together. Add to the mixture and mix together.

5.      Then slowly tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead briefly, until smooth wrap in clingfilm and leave in the fridge for 15mins.

6.      Precisely roll the dough on a floured surface and roll out the dough 0.5cm thick.

7.      After take your cutter and put it in the corner of the dough so you don’t have to keep rolling it out.

8.      Carefully press out your shapes and put it on a baking tray with grease paper on to stop it from sticking.

9.      Bake for 12-15mins on 180 degrees

10.  Finally let it cool for 10mins then decorate.

Chef’s tip: These gingerbread taste great with silver spoon white icing and mini smarties

Gingerbread will be a great snack at a children’s party or finger food at a wedding or they fit perfectly in a child’s lunchbox.
